Restaurant Guide to Malta

Like many Mediterranean countries, Malta enjoys it's food and there are many restaurants on the island. You can find anything from Japanese sushi, Italian pizza's, Indian curries, English fish and chips to traditional Maltese food.

Ta' Marija Restaurant
Apparently over the past three years Ta' Marija has been voted the best Maltese Food restaurant but they don't say by who! Well even though I haven't been there every year for the past three it definitely gets my vote. The restaurant offers an authentic Maltese menu in a friendly and welcoming setting. Every Wednesday and Friday evening they have musicians from Malta playing mandolins and guitars singing traditional songs and after dinner you can enjoy a Maltese folklore show with traditional dancers. The restaurant is open for dinner as well as lunch and it is highly recommended that you make a booking.

Ta' Frenc
If you are on the island of Gozo you cannot go far wrong with the Ta' Frenc Restaurant, voted the best overall restaurant on all of the islands of Malta in 2006 by The Definitive Good Guide to Restaurants which is Malta's top restaurant guide based on reports and comments of regular restaurant visitors, rated on quality of food, service and ambience. The Ta' Frenc restaurant itself is located in a converted farmhouse and also has a beautiful garden full of herbs for alfresco dining. The restaurant prides itself on using only the best local ingredients, well worth a visit.

The Villa Brasserie, Le Meridien
Situated inside a 19th centaury villa, it has a very grand staircase entrance that makes you immediately feel that you are in for something special. Whilst the surroundings are traditional, inside the setting is modern with a number of excellent frescoes. You can choose to dine on the terrace where you can take in the sights and sounds of Balluta Bay or inside. The menu is seasonal based on quality local ingredients with an 'exotic' twist. Private group bookings are also possible.

Le Meridien St Julian's, 39 Main Street, Balluta Bay, St Julian's

Tex Mex
Contrary to what the name implies, Tex Mex is not only a Mexican restaurant, it is in fact a South West American restaurant with Mexican and Mediterranean influences. For me, Tex Mex serves some of the best ribs I have ever eaten. You will also find large juicy steaks, fajitas, enchiladas, Italian pizzas and pasta on the menu. It is suggested that you make a booking to guarantee a table in this very popular restaurant.

Bacchus Restaurant
If you are looking for a romantic dinner for two then Bacchus Restaurant in Mdina is an excellent choice. The restaurant is set inside the medieval walls of the city of Mdina and Bacchus has been highly acclaimed as one of the best places to eat in Malta.

The Casino Brasserie
If you fancy a bit of a flutter with or rather before or after your dinner then look no further than the Casino Brasserie is located in the most exclusive casino's in Malta right in the center of St. Julian's. The restaurant has an art deco-design and offers a special half price discount off two courses every Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. If that was not enough you also have a chance to win fantastic prizes like plasma screen televisions and mobile phones by trying your luck on the fruit machines.

Nightlife in Malta

Going out in Paceville, St. Julians
The main party and nightclub location in Malta is in Paceville in St. Julians. Along St. George's Road, you can find a large amount of resturants, bars and night clubs.

Places to eat range from small stalls selling slices of pizza, to mid priced restaurants and many fast food outlets like Burger King, McDonald's and the Hard Rock Cafe in Malta.

There are many Night Clubs in St. Julians, most offer free entry and because of their close proximity to each other it is really easy to hop from on to the other until you find one that suits you. If you are looking for some more adult entertainment there are also a few Gentlemen's Clubs and Strip Clubs located in St. Julians, Malta also mostly along St. George's street.

Going out in Mellieha
If you are in the north of Malta, the Reflections Pub and Grill in Mellieha is an excellent choice. English owned, it has a sports bar / cozy feel to it if that makes sense! On the evening that I visited, I found the staff to be really friendly as well as the locals, who are a mixture of mostly British expats and Maltese people out for a drink at their local. They often have live music and singing. On the weekend that I visited, the singer sang many of the old western classics like Hotel California by the Eagles and had an excellent voice. Well worth a visit.
