In the past I was a pretty independent traveler and would never consider a package holiday, but what converted me was I once found by accident a package holiday that was cheaper than the cheapest flight to the country I was going to visit! (The Gambia) I bought that holiday package and used the included hotel as a base, as place of security for the rest of my wander through the country. It was a revelation. But even if you don't plan to go backpacking around Dubai, a package holiday may be the cheapest way of visiting this city and so I would say check the prices, even if you don't want to stay at the hotel provided in the package, it may still work out cheaper than booking everything on your holiday separately. Here is my guide to package holidays to Dubi:

What is included in a Package Holiday?
Most package holidays, and this includes to Dubai, include the flights from selected airports around the country to Dubai. Usually a 3, 5, 7, 10 or 14 night stay at a given hotel, usually on a bed and breakfast basis. There are often fully inclusive packages as well as self catering options available which is perfect if you wish to go out try different restaurants in the evenings. Local transfers are also usually included, but it is always worth checking, just to make sure.

Self Catering, Bed & Breakfast or Fully Inclusive?
Choosing on what type of board basis you would like on your holiday package is for me down to your personal preference, what is available and the price difference. I prefer either Bed & Breakfast or Self Catering as this alows me to go out and sample the local restaurants and foods in the evenings. Breakfasts at a street cafe, rather than in your hotel can also be fun, allowing you to sample more of the countries local culture.
On the flip side, Fully Inclusive, where dinner and breakfast is supplied by the hotel often works out cheaper. If you are not big on sampling different foods, or have specific dietary requirements, this can also be a safer option as you can let the hotel know of your needs in advance.

Advantages of Package Holidays
For me the biggest advantage of a Dubai package holiday, or one to any country is the security. This is the security of knowing that you have a place to not only sleep, but also if you are carrying luggage (and who isn't), a hotel is a great place to drop all your bags and go out and enjoy yourself. Another security benefit is the security of knowing that in many cases you will be covered by the tour operator, should an airline go bust. (but please check first if this a concern, just to make sure)
As mentioned earlier, package holidays often work out cheaper than booking your flight and accommodation separately.
Booking a package holiday through a well know travel agent could not be simpler, you only have to go through one booking process and your whole holiday is sorted!
Disadvantages of Package Holidays
other than specialist package holidays like hiking or walking holidays, most package holidays offer only one place to stay during your whole holiday, but as I said before, if it works out cheaper, you can use this accommodation as a base for your excursions out into the country.
Not Off the beaten track:
Due to their very nature, other than specialist package holidays like hiking, cycling or walking holidays for example, Package holidays tend to be in tourist hotspots. This can either be an upside or downside depending on your personality or place you are visiting. In Dubai, I think you want to go where all the action is happening, that is the reason for visiting, so this disadvantage is really an advantage when it comes to a Dubai holiday package!
